Then later on he had to go to the draft office and he had to get a lot of shots and stuff and all he could say it that he wanted to kill, kill, kill and they told him that he is the man that they want. When he went to the last stop they ask him if he had been arrested and he said that he had and then they asked him if he had went to court and he told them that he has. The guy told him to wait in the hall way and out there was a lot of killers, rapers and stuff. After all of that he pretty much did not have to go because he got arrested and went to court. Back in them days whenever other people where running away so that they didnt have to go to the military somewhere just doing crimes and they didnt have to go. The main reason why I think Mr.N chose this topic was because he likes stuff about how the old days they drafted people and they allways wanted someone to get in and get it done and how back then was real different than it is now they had lots of different rules but now we have more but some of them are still the same and other are more strict.
All in all the song talks about how they did this crime and did not have to do time but when the called him in to do his duties he did not have to go because he was convicted of a crime and went to court and they did not want them people to have anything to do with the military. So you litter back then and you have to go through all the mess that they did.

I think Mr. N chose this topic because he could get multiple responses with no right answers. This way he can further understands how we write and interpret stories and articles. So he can determine if we are fit for his government conspiracies. That is why I have come to the conclusion that this all a CIA test to see if our minds could be brainwashed. That is why I think he was inspired by this song.

Alice's Restaurant
Alice and her husband Ray lived in the bell tower of the church.Since they lived in the bell tower they decided that they didn't need to take out their trash. They decided to just put the trash downstairs. After a while the trash began to build up and a friend of theirs offered to dispose of the trash. They decided to take the trash down to the city dump.
They took the half a ton of trash in the back of the volkswagon microbus and headed toward the city dump. Well once they arrived they seen a big sign and a chain across the dump saying "Closed For Thanksgiving." Therefore they had to find a different location to dump the trash.
They found a cliff off of a side road and they looked over to discover that there was already some trash that had been dumped down there, so they decided to throw the bags of trash on over the cliff. Afterwards, they drove back to the church and ate Thanksgiving dinner.
The next morning they received a phone call from a police officer. The officer said they found an envelope at the location where they had dumped the trash that had their names on it, and was wondering if they knew anything about it.
The truth finally came out of the person. The officer said they had to go pick up all the trash that they dumped. After they picked up the trash, they had to come down to the police station to have a talk.
Once they arrived, they were put into handcuffs and put in a cell. After about five hours, Alice came and bailed them out and took them back to the church.
In my own opinion, I believe that Mr. Neuburger would be inspired by the life story and he could be inspired by the trouble that Alice's friends went through and was still Alice's friend. Alice is a good person and naming tour blogger after this song could occur because Mr. Neubuger believes there is good in everyone. You can succeed if you just try.

The whole thing started on Thanksgiving day in 1965, a man by the name of Arlo Guthrie and his friend Richard Robbins were taking the garbage out for there good friend Alice. When they went to dump the trash, the dump was not open because it was a holiday so they left and was looking for another place to dump the garbage, they came across a back road that had a big cliff on it and saw garbage already at the bottom. So of course like any person thinks if one person did it why can't I so they went ahead and through it with the other garbage at the bottom of the cliff. After they did that they went back and ate there Thanksgiving dinner and went to bed. The next day they woke up to call from the police station. With an officer by the name of Officer Obie and he said I found this envelope at the bottom of this garbage pile, that has your name on it is it yours. Arlo said sir I can't lie I did put that envelope at the bottom of the trash.
Who is Alice? Alice is a friend of the song writer Arlo Guthrie, she is the owner of the famous "Alices Restaurant", and she is also a painter and a designer. Why did Arlo write a song about the restaurant? The story I told you in the paragraph before is basically his song in shorter words, I just summed it up. He wrote the song because apparently he thought the crime he committed at Thanksgiving was funny and wanted to tell the world about it. He wrote the song about Alice because the whole event happened at her house if she didn't have the garbage then the would have not been nice enough to try to drop it off, which means that they would have not got caught by the cops and would not have got arrested. This all was happening when the Vietnam War, one of the rules of getting drafted was you could not get into any trouble or have any run in with the laws. Well Guthrie wanted to go to the army and could not and that is the whole real reasoning for the song. He had nothing really better to do.
I think this blog is a really cool idea. It will be a good way to express the way a lot of us feel and will not have to worry about being embarrassed because every one will be expressing themselves. That is a lot of the reason I think Mr. Neuburger named our blog after this song and really it was not even the song but Guthrie was expressing to every one how he felt and made it fun of it and was not afraid to tell his story. That is why I think Mr. Neubuger named our class blog after the song Alice's Restaurant.

Arlo Guthrie was one of Alice's students. Arlo was also a singer. Arlo and his friend Richard Robbins went to visit Alice and her husband Ray during Thanksgiving. They wanted to help Alice and Ray clean up their home so they offered to take the trash to the dump. Arlo and Richard loaded the trash into their VW microbus and headed for the dump but came to find it closed for Thanksgiving. They drove around until they found a place to dump the trash. They came to a large hill with trash already at the bottom as they fingered one pile of trash would be better than two so they dump it there. On November 25,1965 the two boys was arrested by Officer William Obanhein for illegally dumping. Alice bailed the boys out of jail after having a word or two with Officer Obanhein or from Arlo's song Officer Obie. Two days later the two boys pleaded guilty and where fined $50 and had to pick up all of the trash.
After all this happened Arlo was called up for the draft. Arlo spent all day at the induction center in New York and at the end of the day he was sent to Group W bench. Arlo sat there for awhile then was called back to talk to an officer. The officer told Arlo that because of his criminal record that he was not fit to be in the army. This really upset Arlo, he couldn't believe he was not allowed to fight in the army for being a litterbug. This is when Arlo made up the song Alice's Restaurant. The song tells people about the day Arlo and his friend where arrested for dumping the trash over the hill and how Alice was their friend who had them over for Thanksgiving dinner and how they just wanted to help out. The song goes on to tell people how Arlo was called up for the draft and how they believe he was not fit ti fight in the war. That they seen him as the seen mother rapers and murders.
I really have no clue why Mr. Neuburger was name the blog Alice's Restaurant. It could be because we are going to read Alice in the Wonderland for our first book in class. Mr. Neuburger could have named it Alice's Restaurant because he liked the story and found that it would be a good name for our blog. It also could be that you can find anything in Alice's restaurant; you could say that about your blog. We have so many different people in our class that not everyone is going to think alike. There is going to be many different points of views that you will hardly find any the same. By naming your blog Alice's Restaurant after the song it tells you that you can find many different views and many different things all in one place. This is way I believe Mr. Neuburger named our blog Alice's Restaurant.

Alices Restaurant
The next day Arlo received a call from the town police officer by the name of William Obanhein, Obie for short. Obie asked Arlo if he had committed the crime of the garbage dumping on the side of the road, Arlo pleaded quilting to crime. Not long after,Obie made his way to pick Arlo up at the Brocks home. Walking out to the cop car, Alice stopped Arlo and asked him what was going on. Arlo confessed to Alice about the dumping of the garbage, and now he would be going to jail. Obie explained to Alice that Arlo would be fined fifty dollars and one night in jail.

Alice's Restaurant
Alice M. Brock and her husband Ray Brock lived in the bell tower of the former Trinity Church on Division Street in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Alice was a painter and a designer, Ray was an architect and woodworker. Both worked at a nearby private academy from which Arlo Guthrie graduated. Arlo Guthrie was a friend of Alice and Ray, they allowed for Arlo and Rick to come join them in their home. Arlo and Rick got a brilliant idea on thanksgiving morning 1965, they decided to help the brocks out, by cleaning up there garbage out of the church. They drove to the city dump, and saw a sign which said closed for the holiday. Arlo decided to take it to this side road by the music camp, that he went to one summer. They drove up the hill and dumped it off the cliff. Then they drove back to Alice's Restaurant, and had a beautiful thanksgiving feast. Police Chief Obanhein came over to the Brock's home, and said he found a envelope with the name brock on it at the bottom of a bunch of trash. The two boys finally confesed to doing it as a nice gesture for the brocks. On November 26, 1965 officer obanhein took the boys off to jail. Soon the boys dear friend Alice showed up and called officer obanhein every name that came to her mind. She handed over the boys bail money and they went to court in the town of Lee. The boys pleaded Guilty, your honor," were fined $25 each and had to go pick the trash up they threw over the cliff.
A little bit after Arlo's arrest he got call, saying he is being drafted to the military. He went to check in and they called him unfit to be in the military. They claimed him unfit because of his arrest, and so now he's a free man. So know people who are trying to avoid a draft there's three ways. Burn your draft cards, flee the country and commit a crime. Before the draft call, Arlo and Rick had begun to write "Alice's Restaurant," and after the draft call Arlo finished it adding what had happened when he checked in to the military for the draft.
Alice's Restaurant is a song that Arlo Guthrie wrote, its 18minutes and 20 seconds long. Its a talk- song about a deadpan protest against the Vietnam War draft and widespread anti-hippie prejudice. Arlo Guthrie's famous song, was released in August 19, 1969, it was called Alice's Restaurant after his song.
Is alice's Restaurant a real place or not?
Alice's Restaurant is a real place in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The restaurant is actually six miles from the church. Alice brock only owned the restaurant for one year before divorcing her husband Ray.
I think Mr. Neuberger picked Alice's Restaurant because he dumped a bunch of garbage to get out of something he didnt want to do. He's also into the hippie stuff. I pretty much don't know why he picked it just throwing something out there.

Alices Restaurant
The next morning they recived a phone call from the police station saying that an envelope had been recovered from the trash pile with arlos name on it. They were asked to come to the station. Arlo and Richard were honest and said they had dumped the trash. In turn they were arrested and taken to jail by Officer William "Obie" Obanhein for illegally littering on a holiday. Alice was at the jail soon, and bailed the boys out. The returned to alices church home, sat down to dinner, and began writing a song. Two days later they plead guilty in court before a blind judge. They were fined $50 and were told to pick the trash up. This ordeal happened in the heat of the Vietnam war draft. A few weeks after their arrest, Arlo was sent to see a military psychiatrist, who questioned him about the draft. Arlo exclaimed "Im ready to kill, KILL KILL!" It was then that the sargent came over and pinned a medal on Arlos shirt saying "Your our boy!" As he proceeded along the draft questioning he was found to have a criminal record. It was said that boys who were to be drafted, were not supposed to have a criminal record, so he was turned down for the draft for littering. Arlo quoted, ""I'm sittin here on the Group W bench 'cause you want to know if I'm moral enough to join the army, burn women, kids, houses and villages after bein' a litterbug?"
Arlo became inspired after his arrest and began composing a song, speaking out about his arrest and the fact he was kicked out of the draft for such a small offense as littering. While thousands of boys were fleeing to Canada, and burnig their draft cards to avoid the war, Arlo was kept from the war for littering. In his eyes he had the morals to fight in vietnam for his counrty, but was denied the for the simple offense of littering.
Arlos song Alices Restaurant, became a whoping 18 minutes and 20 second blues based song protesting the draft, and the war in Vietnam. He was so mad that the fact that he littered was going to keep him from the war, when what he called "father rapers and "mother reapers" who were in his eyes mean and nasty crime-type men, were going to get to fight. The final part of the song is where Arlo tells the audience that if they find themselves facing the draft they should walk into the military psychiatrist's office and sing, "Shrink, You can get anything you want, at Alice's restaurant," and walk out. The original alubum rose to #17 on the Billboard charts. Its also regulary played on thanksgiving on many radio stations especially around the New York and Boston areas. A movie version of "Alice's Restaurant" was released on August 19, 1969, a few days after Guthrie appeared at the Woodstock Festival. His musical talent and strong words made a huge dent in music and history in general.
I believe Mr. N chose this because he digs the activism era of the 60's genaration. Arlo was obviously a tripped out hippy who dumped some trash, got caught and was arrested. He then was kept from the Vietnam draft for the small offense of littering. He had the courage to go to war but was not accepted to fight for his country. In turn, he stood up for what he believed in by writing a song. Mr N. was inspired by his movement against "the man" and unfairness.
I hope you enjoyed your read :)

Alice's restaurant
The song goes on to describe Guthrie's being called up for the draft, and the surreal bureaucracy at the new york city induction center on Whitehall street . Because of Guthrie's criminal record for littering, he is first sent to the Group W Bench, where the convicts have to wait and then get actual rejected from the military. Arlo tells the audience that should they find themselves facing the draft they should walk into the military psychiatrist's office and sing, Shrink, You can get anything you want, at Alice's restaurant, and walk out.
Alice's Restaurant
The reason why Arlo and his friend had so much garbage to dump was because there were not any pews in the church, so this is where the trash was collected until they ran out of space. The morning after Arlo Guthrie and Roger Robbins dumped garbage on a side road Arlo got a phone call from Officer Obanhein saying that he found an envelope under the dumped garbage with Arlo's name on it and asked him if he had any more information to tell him about the garbage. So Arlo confessed saying that there is no way he could tell a lie and said that he did dump the trash. Unfortunately, Officer Obanhein ordered Arlo and Roger to pick up the garbage, gave them fines, and imprisoned them. When Arlo was released from jail, Officer William "Obie" Obanhein placed Arlo Guthrie in a room with people that Arlo referred to as "mother and father rapers". The reason why Arlo named Alice's Restaurant after Alice Brock is because it was her garbage that he dumped and she paid his court fines for him in the approximate amount of fifty dollars. Since Arlo was being drafted to the military, he had to go for his physical but he was denied and declared "unfit" because of his criminal record that they discovered. Actually it turned out that Arlo dumped the garbage with and envelope with his name addressed on the front so he would get caught and could not be drafted to the military.
Soon enough Arlo wrote a song which was a protest against the Vietnam War Draft and against hippies. Then later, not only was Alice's Restaurant a restaurant, but also a song and a movie. He wrote so many things, the song ended up being just slightly over 18 minutes long. This real story turned out to be a famous movie and piece of music.
Some of the lyrics to the song that Arlo wrote about Alice's Restaurant are:
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
Walk right in it's around the back
Just a half a mile to the railroad track
You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant
I think that Mr. Neuburger chose Alice's Restaurant for our Applied Communications class to blog about because I believe that once upon a time he was in a slight different state of mind when he and a friend decided to do something illegal on a holiday so they would not have to be drafted into the military.

Alice's Restaurant
Alice's Restaurant is both a song and an actual place. The song was inspired by the place, well more like the event that happened there. The song was written by Arlo Guthrie, which is where it all started. In 1964 Alice M. Brock, using the money that her mother gave her, bought a church in Barrington Massachusetts where her and her husband lived. Alice was a painter and a designer, while her husband, Ray, was a woodworker and architect. They both worked at a nearby academy from which Guthrie had graduated. Alice's Restaurant was located about six miles from the church. Alice only owned it for a year before her and her husband were divorced.
Alice Brock was the woman who owned the restaurant that was pretty much the source and inspiration for Arlo Guthrie's song "Alice's Restaurant". It was her restaurant that Guthrie had gotten the trash from and where it all started for him. As of 2005, Alice lives in Provincetown, Massachusettes, and owns an art gallery and studio. She has also illustrated the book "Mooses Come Walking", which was written by Guthrie.
Arlo Guthrie is an American folk singer who, like his father , often sings songs that protest social injustice. His most famous piece was of course "Alice's Restaurant". Guthrie was born in Brooklyn, New York, and is the son of folk singer and composer Woody Guthrie. He graduated from the Stockbridge school of Massachusetts in 1965, which was where Alice and her husband worked, and attended Rocky Mountain College for a short period for a time. Guthrie carries on the legacy of his father as a singer, songwriter, and lifelong politics activist. He was also awarded the Peace Abbey Courage of Conscience award on September 26, 1992.
I believe that he wrote the song to prove a point, that the things that went on were absurd. Like the fact that he was considered unfit to join the military and fight for his country for a little offense as littering, not because he had murdered someone but because he had littered.
I think that Mr. Neuburger named the blog Alice's Restaurant because of the song that was about an actual event that occurred. Also in the song they say that you can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant, Mr. Neuburger told us that we are gonna be doing many different things in the blog and therefore, you can get anything you want.
Alice's Restaurant ll
While all this was happening there was a war on the other side of the world in Vietnam. Many men were drafted and had to fight in the war. Others tried to avoid the war by fleeing to another country or they would burn their draft cards and hope they were not caught. However when Arlo went to sign up for the draft he found that he could not go to war because he had a criminal record. He did not understand why he could not go to war for littering when those who go to war are killing and destroying homes. This is what inspired Arlo to write the song. The song was eighteen minutes and twenty seconds long and was a great hit. The song rose into the top twenty on the billboard charts. Arlo's song is now played on many radio stations on thanksgiving day. I think Mr N chose this topic to make us realize that we should speak our opinion such as Arlo Guthrie did. Arlo was a person who loved his country and wanted to help in the war, but he was prevented from doing so because he had littered. His frustration is what made this song available to us today.

Alices Restaurant II
Arlo and got caught dumping illegally and got arrested, he got fined fifty dollars and was assigned to go pickup the garbage that he dumped, after he picked up the garbage. The police man "Obie" found Arlo Guthrie name on a envelope at the bottom of the cliff where Arlo and his friend dumped there trash. The following morning officer Obie called Arlo and said that they found the garbage that he had dumped and needed him to come down to the station. When Arlo got down to the station Obie put Arlo into a cell, and asked him for his wallet and belt, Arlo ask Obie" i understand you taking my wallet but why my belt"? Obie answer by sawing Arlo we do not need any hangings happening in this jail house, then Arlo smarted off and said something about taking the toilet seat off to, because he could easily drown himself with the seat being on there, so Obie took the toilet seat off to. After all of the garbage was picked up he had to go before a court and see if he was cleared. The judge that was determining Arlo Guthrie conviction was blind. Since his conviction and being proven guilty he was kicked out of the draft and could not join the military. The military wouldn't allow anyone to be drafted that had a criminal recored and Arlo Guthrie did.
Alices restaurant is based on a true story, the reason Arlo Guthrie decided to write this song was because he experienced what the songs about. Some more interesting information about Alices Restaurant is that it has nothing to do with what the songs about, i really do not understand what Arlo is getting at when he chose to name his song Alices Resteraunt . The song lasts eighteen minutes and twenty seconds, its a very long song. Alice M Brock and her husband Ray Brock was a owner of a restaurant, that was originally a church. Alice Brock was a painter and designer and Ray Brock was a wood worker and architect . Alices restaurant was formally known as " The Back Room Rest".
People that did not want to go to the Vietnam war had a couple of choices, they could either skip state and leave and go to Canada , or Mexico. They could also burn there draft cards, but if they did that they were technically criminals. After burning there draft cards, if they were to get stopped or get into trouble for anything, the police would run a check on them and when it checked out that they did not go to fight in the war like they were suppose to, they would go straight to jail. There was alot of people that thought going to jail was worth not going to fight for there country.
I think Mr. Neuburger chose this song because in the song "Alices Restaurant" it tries to convince the listeners that you can accomplish anything that you want as long as you fight for it, and work at it. I believe that you chose this title because you want us to realize that we can do anything that we put our mind to, as long as were willing to work for it and work at it. I just think that you basically chose this to us to give us a assignment and get us back into the work ethic. And you want us to realize that anything is possible. Thank you so much for reading and i hope you enjoyed your self while you were reading the 100 % material.

I think he wrote the song because what happened was ridiculous. He should he been able to join the army in spite of the fact that he once littered. He thought it was stupid that you had to be a modern day saint to be able to go kill innocent people.
What is the song about?
Why would the song inspire Mr. N to name our class blog after it?
I think he named our class blog after this song and event because he also think that it’s ridiculous to not be able to go fight for your country in a war because you’re a convicted litterer.

Welcome!
A good deal of our work will be posted here on the blog. What work am I talking about? Well, we will be interacting with each other as we read and respond to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, heretofore referred as AAIW. We will then create podcasts, create some video, and finish the year with some group projects. If everything works out well we may manage to work in some claymation projects.
However, we will begin the year with a mini-research project. Over the next two class periods we you will need to determine the answers to the following questions:
- What is Alice's Restaurant?
- Is it a real or fictional place?
- Who is Alice?
- Why name a restaurant after her?
- Who is Arlo Guthrie?
- Why would he write a song about Alice's Restaurant?
- What is the song about?
- Why would this song inspire Mr. N to name our class blog after it?
