Carroll, Dodgson, and a Hookah

Today you will determine just exactly who this guy named Lewis Carroll really is. I want you spend 30 minutes finding out. I also want you to determine what EXACTLY a hookah is and what it is used for. As many of you might automatically assume, a hookah may be used for drug consumption. However, it symbolizes much more than that. I want to know why Carroll uses it in a children's story. You need to consider the time the story was written.

You have thirty minute to determine the answers to these questions:

1. Why did Carroll write AAIW?
2. What is a hookah and who uses one?
3. Why would Carroll use a hookah in a children's story?
4. Besides writing, what else is Carroll famous for.
5. Is AAIW an appropriate book for high school students to read?

After thirty minutes, we will go back to the classroom and write a group response to the above questions.
