The Soup and the Dance

Mock turtle soup is made of the body of a turtle and the unused parts of calves, like hooves, tails, and heads. The picture of the mock turtle in the book looks just like the discretion of the soup. The characters in the book sing most of the stories they tell thats why there is so much singing. In the lobster quadrille the lobster is the partner to all the other animals and were the ones thrown out to sea. The mock turtle was singing about soup because Alice wanted to hear a song instead of leaning more of the lobster quadrille, then the Gryphon asked the mock turtle to sing the song also. Alice did not want to be close to the duchess because she was very ugly and was exactly the right height to rest her chin on Alice's shoulder. The rhyme scheme is AABBBB, CCBBBB, DDBBBB. The lobster quadrille dance is preformed by forming two lines of seals, turtles, salmon, and so on. Then they clear all the jelly fish out of the way and advance twice with a lobster partner. After that they change lobsters and tetire in the same order. Then throw the lobsters out as far as they can to sea then swim to go get them. Turn a somersalt in the sea change lobsters again and then back to land.

Mock Turtle

In chapter nine the Mock Turtle tells a story and Alice asks what a Mock Turtle is and the queen said that its what mock turtle soup is made of. But in reality Mock Turtle soup is made of cow. More in depth its cow meat that isn't used as often such as non muscular cow meat to imitate turtle meat.

There is so much singing in this book because its a child's book and kids take to music so there is alot of singing in the book.
The lobster's role in the quadrille is that you dance with the lobsters and then throw them up in the air.
The Mock Turtle sings about soup because the gryphon asks him to.
Alice doesn't wanna be close to the Duchess because the Duchess keeps digging her chin into Alice's shoulder and the Duchess has a sharp chin.
The rhyme scheme on pages 67 and 68 are AABBBB, CCBBBB, DDBBBB.
The lobster Quadrille you start by lining up on the shore in two rows and each person has a lobster to dance with them and they advance into the sea two counts then out two counts then throw the lobster out to sea they they swim after it then they start the dance all over again.
Tracey Sams, Sean Erpelding, Cody Lund, Jeremy Gulick.

Turtle and Lobster

Mock turtle soup is made of parts of a calf that is usually discarded. The parts are: the head, tail, hooves, and non-muscular meat. The non- muscular meat is used to imitate turtle meat. The turtle in the pictures on pages 64 and 67 have a head, hooves, and a tail of a calf, which is what is in the soup, but has a body of a turtle. Alice and the Gryphon notice that the turtle is crying so they act concerned for him.
In this story, there is a lot of singing because it was wrote as a children's book. In the Lobster Quadrille, the lobsters were thrown into the air and out into the sea. The Mock Turtle sings about soup because Alice wants him to sing her another song, then the Gryphon told him to sing about Mock Turtle Soup. Alice does not want to be close to the duchess because the duchess is ugly, mean, she puts her chin on Alice's shoulder, and the Queen does not like the duchess.
The rhyme scheme for the song is:
AABBBB
CCBBBB
DDBBBB
To perform the Lobster Quadrille, you must dance, sing, put tails in your mouth, and throw lobsters out into the sea.
Katie Colley, Spencer Goodman, Kayla Faucett

Mock Turtle soup...

The pun of the mock turtle is that it is half turtle and half calf. Mock turtle soup was a dish made in the Victorian period, which ties into the story thought the queen. The complicated pun then is both word and picture play. Mock turtle soup was made from parts of a calf that were generally discarded such as the head, hooves, tails, ect. The soup was actually imitation turtle meat, aka mock. The mock turtle in the story was just that half turtle, half calf. There is alot of singing in this book because it is a children's book. Carroll first wrote and read this book to children. The Lobsters in the quadrille served as dance partners to other animals, and were thrown out to sea. The Mock turtle sings about soup because Alice wanted to hear a song about him, and the Gryphon's wanted to hear him sing it too. Alice didn't want to be close to the duchess because she was ugly and creepy and would always rest her chin on alices shoulder. This scared alice. AABBBB

The Cat and The Hat!!!

Twinkle,,twinkle, little cat! How I wonder where you're at! Up above the tree so high, How you laugh when I walk by. Twinkle, twinkle, little cat! How I wonder where your at?
The hatter doesn't care what time it is because to him its always tea time which is why he only needs to know the day. He murdered time when he kept singing the same verse, she yelled out how he was wasting her time. Due to him wasting her time, the Queen ordered him to be beheaded. The Hatter only wears a watch that has the days of the week, because everyday for him is tea time, the days change though. The knave is the second in command. The Queen couldn't recognize the gardeners because they were face down. While the gardeners try to give an explanation, the queen ordered for them to be killed but they ran away. In their game of croquet the cards are arches, flamingos are mallets, and hedgehogs are used as balls. The cat watches over Alice to make sure she makes it through the day. The card in the picture is the Jack of Diamonds.

The Mad Tea Party.....

In this tea party that Alice had with the dormouse the Mad hatter and the March Hare. The dormouse was sitting between Alice and the mad hatter fast asleep. The March hare seemed very hateful in the questions that he was asking Alice maybe even a little. The Mad Hatter was a asking questions that really didn't have an answers. The hatter murders time by singing the same verse of twinkle twinkle little star over and over again. The queen wanted the hatter's head to be taken off because the hatter was taking up her time with the song that he had messed up.
A knave is a boy or male servant in the story the knave is to be loyal to the queen but is not loyal when he steals some tarts. The queen could not recognize the gardeners because they were all face down on the ground. The cat speaks for Alice because the the Cheshire cat is a very important role because he is kinda the watch "CAT" in the so called Kingdom. Two does not get to give an explantion because the Queen came and messed him up and didn't let him finish. In the game croquet the mallets are live flamingos and the balls are live hedgehogs. The playing cards make the wickets or hoops. The Hatter wears the watch that only shows what day it is because they don't have time in the tea party the show up at the same time everyday.
Twinkle Twinkle Little Fly
How I wonder how you got so high
up above the cloudless sky
I wonder how you manage to fly.
Brittany Rickman Cody Baldwin Nikki Moose Kirk Rose Grace Hickman.

Hateful Hatter!

While sitting at the table, the Mad Hatter, March Hare, and the Dormouse are arguing with Alice because they do not want her to sit at the table with them since they are used to having tea together without anyone else.
Twinkle, twinkle little hare, how I wonder why you stare, up above the world so high like a frizzball in the sky, twinkle, twinkle little hare how I wonder why you stare.
The Hatter wears a watch that only shows what day it is because only the day changes, not the time, it is always "tea time." The Hatter murders time because he when he messed up "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," by making it a lot longer, the Queen of hearts told him that he was murdering time. The Queen of Hearts wants the Hatter beheaded because when he was singing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" to the Queen and since he sang it wrong she wanted him to be beheaded. A knave is an unreliable scoundrel. Two tells the queen that she wants the Hatter beheaded. The queen couldn't recognize the gardeners because they were laying face down. Croquet is played with a pink flamingo. The red jack is the knave in the post. The role of the Cheshire is he is speaking to the queen for Alice.

Kayla, Katie, Spencer, Sean and Ashley

Twinkle, Twinkle

The characters acts are all different Alice in the conversation in the tea party is like the stranger that wasn't invited she intrudes on the party and gets very frusterated with the other characters. The Mad Hatter in the party is like the guy that knows it all and he ignores Alice and says alot of things in ryme and has something to say bout everything. The March Hare is pretty much the same act that the Mad Hatter does in the tea party. And the Dormouse sleeps at the door almost the entire time and comes in and sings random songs and tells a story.

Twinkle, Twinkle little hookah.
How i wonder whats in ya.
Up above makin the world so high.
Like Jimmy Hindrix in the sky.
Twinkle, Twinkle little Hookah.

The Hater wears the watch because it can put you to whatever time you wanna be in and can make you stay in that time for as long as you wanna be there. And if you wanna stay in a surtain time then why would you need to know the time.
The Hatter murders time because he moves time up or back anytime he wants and slows it down when he wants that why alice says that Hatter murders time.
The Queen wants him beheaded because he murders time.
A knave is a Jack of diamonds in the deck of cards.
Because they were laying down on their backs and they looked like all the other cards as they were laying there.
Two explains that they were painting the roses red because they were white but forgot one and the queen reacted be beheading two.
The Chichare Cat perrty much just annoys everyone and they have to go ask the duchess if they can behead him or not then when they come back the cat is gone.

The Oinkly Baby!!!

The caterpillar is smoking the hookah because it helps to depict that he is a wise person who gives good advice. Alice went through so much that she lost her memory now she remembers nothing of before. The caterpillar told Alice to recite Father William to regain her memory, after Alice left the caterpillar she tasted both sides of the mushroom to get back to her normal size again. Bill, the lizard was told by the white rabbit to go see what was in side his house. Bill found out that Alice was a giant inside his home.
The frog and the fish wore powered wigs because they were servants. The fish delivered a letter from the queen, to the frog for the duchess. Alice came out of the woods wondering what all the racket was coming from. The racket was coming from inside the duchesses house, stuff was so chaotic because the baby was upset. The duchess was singing a lullaby to calm the baby down. The duchess gave the baby to Alice to see if she could calm it down, because the mother wanted to abuse the baby for crying. Alice started running with the baby into the woods because she thought they were going to kill it. While Alice was holding the baby, it turned into a pig and ran off into the woods.
The March hare is not the White Rabbit, they live in two completely different places.

Kenzi Gwin
Tyler Colley
Steven Hill
Shelby Jones.

Crazy Baby

The caterpillar smoked out of a hookah because he was known to be wise and wise upper-class people smoked hookahs. Alice doesn't remember who she is and the things she used to know because she changes so much throughout the day. Bill went down the chimney to see if Alice was in the rabbit's house and to help her escape from there. Alice tries to remember who Father William was because the caterpillar told her to remember the poem called Father William. A fush and a frog are wearing powdered wigs because they are dressed in livery. The duchess starts singing while she was nursing her child. The significance that the baby has in this story is that the duchess was chaotic because of the baby, the duchess threw the baby at Alice which involved her. Alice decided to hold the pig because it was a baby. The March Hare is not the White Rabbit because a hare and a rabbit and two different things. The mother is going to beat the child because it would not stop crying.

Spencer Goodman, Kayla Faucett, Ashley Urtado, Sean Erpelding, Katie Colley

Pig And Pepper......

The caterpillar is smoking the hookah because he was known to be wise. Alice doesn't think that she remembers anything because she has changed so many times, that she thinks she has lost some of her memories. Bill goes down the chimney because he is the only one that can fit and because they were looking for something. She recites the peom father willam to prove that she is still herself and so that she can prove that she remembers everything. The fush and frog are wearing wigs to show their importance in the story. The Dutchess was started singing because she was singing a lullaby while she was feeding him. The baby's imprtance is that Alice thinks that the baby won't live any longer so she steals him. Alice is holding the pig because it was once a baby and she is still treating it like one. No, the hare is not the white rabbit. The white rabbit is the one that Alice is trying to find and the Hare was the one at the Tea Party. The mother is going to beat the child because she thinks that he is trying to annoy her by sneezing.
Nikki Moose, Brittany Rickman, Grace Hickman, Kirk Rose, Cody Baldwin

Weird Baby!!!

The caterpillar is smoking the hookah because the author wants the reader to think that the caterpillar is an very wise person. Alice says she cant remember anything because everything keeps changing and because of her size changes and things that she thinks are real aren't and things that are real she doesn't believe they are. Bill goes down the chimney because he try's to get Alice out of the rabbits house. The importance of Father William is that the caterpillar repeats a line and Alice finishes the reast of the poem. But Alice doesn't get it right. A fush and a frog are wearing powdered wigs because they are dressed in livery. The duchess starts singing because she is nursing her child. The baby plays an important role in this chapter because the duchess is causing all the drama in her house and the baby is involved in that so Alice takes the baby out of the house and in that maybe relieves all the frustration out of her house. Alice holds the pig because it was a baby before so she does not wanna put it down in case it turns back into a baby. No the March Hare is not the white rabbit. Because it wont stop crying.
Cody Lund, Tracey Sams, Jeremy Gulick

The Hookah

In his early days before he became a writer he became close with his friends wife and their daughters. He spent a lot of time tell them stories with Alice as the main character. After many people heard this story, he was influenced to publish it. A hookah was used to smoke tobacco and opium. It was mostly used by the upper class and wise people for social gatherings. He brought the hookah into the story because it was integrated into society and his life. He was also known for photography of young girls and his books on mathematics. We believe that high schoolers should be mature enough to read and understand this book, as for any younger kids it may be corruptive.

Carrol, Dodgson, and Hookah

Lewis Carroll wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland because he became close with one of his friend's wife and their three young girls. Carroll told stories to the girls, then later made the stories into a book. A hookah is a single or multi stemmed water pipe used for smoking herbal fruits. People who used hookahs were the wise ones of upper- class families. Carroll talked about the hookah in his stories because they were accepted at that time. Other than publishing stories, Lewis Carroll was famous for his photography and his inventions. We believe that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is an appropriate book to read because by the time students are in high school, they should be plenty mature enough to take the story seriously.

Ashley Urtado, Kayla Faucett, Spencer Goodman, Sean Erpelding

Charles Lutwidge Dodgson

Lewis Carroll was really Charles Lutwidge Dodgson. Carroll was six feet tall, slender, handsome, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was somewhat asymmetrical and carrying himself rather stiffly and akwardly. He was an English author, mathematician logician, anglician, and photographer. Since Carroll was a young boy he wrote peotry, and short stories which were in the family magazine and then later were published in various magazines. When Carroll did photography his subjects were mainly young girls.
Lewis Carroll wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland to tell to his friends wife and their three daughters. A hookah is a single or multiple stemmed water pipe used for smoking. During the time that the story was written the hookah was used for medical purposes. Carroll included the hookah in the story because the caterpillar was a symbol of wisdom and during that time people who smoked a hookah were supposed to have more wisdom.
Other than writing Carroll was famous for photography but the thing that he was most famous for was photographing young nude girls.
We think that this is an appropriate book for school because it is mainly a fantasy book and everything that is in the book doesn't have to be taken seriously.

Grace Hickman, Brittany Rickman, Nikki Moose, Cody Baldwin, Kirk Rose.

Lewis Carroll and the hookah

Lewis Carroll wrote the story pretty much so that he could make money on stories that he just told to his friends children. Lewis Carroll was also famous for photography, his mostly used photography was naked young girls.Carroll was not just a creep that took naked pictures but back in the day he was known as a very good photographer. He was also known as an inventor, he invented postage stamp carrying case and an early form of the game scrabble. A hookah is a water pipe used for smoking. A hookah back in the 1800's was used mostly by high class and people that were considered to be very wise. Many things could be smoked out of a hookah such as tobacco and things such as opium, and other narcotics. Carroll would put a hookah in a children's story because back in the 1800's smoking out of one of them was an excepted practice and if you think about it, it would make him seem as a smart person. We think that its an appropriate story for a high school student to read because he doesn't really put anything in it that would make it bad. All he does is put something in it that would make the caterpillar seem smart such as it does.
Katie Colley, Cody Lund, Tracey Sams, Jeremy Gulick

Carroll, Dodgson, and a Hookah

Today you will determine just exactly who this guy named Lewis Carroll really is. I want you spend 30 minutes finding out. I also want you to determine what EXACTLY a hookah is and what it is used for. As many of you might automatically assume, a hookah may be used for drug consumption. However, it symbolizes much more than that. I want to know why Carroll uses it in a children's story. You need to consider the time the story was written.

You have thirty minute to determine the answers to these questions:

1. Why did Carroll write AAIW?
2. What is a hookah and who uses one?
3. Why would Carroll use a hookah in a children's story?
4. Besides writing, what else is Carroll famous for.
5. Is AAIW an appropriate book for high school students to read?

After thirty minutes, we will go back to the classroom and write a group response to the above questions.

White Rabbit Lyrics

JEFFERSON AIRPLANE - WHITE RABBIT

One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small

> And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at all

Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits, and you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah-smoking caterpillar has given you the call

And call Alice, when she was just small
[these lyrics are found on http://www.songlyrics.com]

When the men on the chessboard get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom, and your mind is moving low

Go ask Alice, I think she'll know

When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the red queen's off with her head
Remember what the dormouse said
Feed your head, feed your head<

Caucus Race

A caucus race with birds and dragged feathers. This race is different because there is no winner. The long tale is about a trial on how to condemn them to death. The reason the mouse didn't finish the story is because Alice wasn't listening or paying attention. The story is shaped this way because Alice was trailing off the story and was not paying attention to what was being said. The dodo bird is important because he is the one who suggested the race. Alice was concerned about her cat because she thought that the cat would eat all the birds there. Alice decided not to drink the whole bottle because she didn't want to get any bigger. The white rabbit calls Alice Marry Ann because the rabbit didn't know her real name. Bill is a lizard he had gotten a ladder and went down the chimney. He was then shot out of the chimney. Alice has a good relationship with the characters, she is friends with all of them. I think in the next scene Alice will look to find someone and ask them for advice.

Sean Erpelding Spencer Goodman Ashley Urtardo Kayla Faucett

The race that no one win's

A caucas race is when there is no beginning, no end, and no body win the race or everyone wins the race. The long tale is about the mouse and his incounter with fury. The mouse walked away and didnt finish his story because Alice was not paying any attention and affended him. The story was shaped like a cat's tale. The importance of the Dodo bird was that it made up the race. Alice was concerned about her cat because she missed her cat and was afraid that it would eat the birds not only that but it would start giving her orders like everyother animal. Alice didnt drink the whole bottle because she was afraid that she would become to large and break her neck in the house. The Rabbit refers to Alice as Mary Ann because he thinks she is Mary Ann the house maid. In the story Bill is a Lizard that is told to go down the chimney to see what was in the rabbits house, Alice kicked him out of the chimney. At the end of chapter 4 the animals were mad at Alice because she kicked Bill out of the chimney in the Rabbits house. The next thing we think is going to happen is Alice is going to sit and talk to the caterpillar and listen to his story.

Shelby,Kenzi,Tyler,Steven

Caucus Race..........

A caucus race is just a race where they run wherever they want and ends when they're all dry. The tail is about a trial and condeming the cur to death. The mouse didnt finish the story because Alice wasnt paying attention. The story is shaped the way it is because the mouse is triailing off. The importance of the dodo bird was that he suggested the race. Alice was worried about her cat because she was afaid that the cat would eat the birds that were there. Alice stopped drinking the potion because she didn't want to grow anymore that she had already had. The untie rabbit called Alice Mary Ann becuase she didn't know her name. Bill is a lizard, he gets a ladder and goes down the chimney. He was shot out of the chimney like a sky-rocket. Alice becomes friends with all of the animals. In the next chapter we think that she will go into another scene. She will talk to a caterpiller and take some advice from him because she wants to go back to normal.
By: Brittany Rickman, Nikki Moose, Grace Hickman, Cody Baldwin, Kirk Rose.

The Dodo

A caucus race is a random race where there pretty much aren't any rules. There is really no begining and there is no end. The tale is about a trial that already has a predeteremend outcome that is why he isn't gonna waste his time with a judge or jury. The mouse doesn't finish the story because alice wasn't paying attention and decided to be a smart allic. Because he is a mouse and the story is shaped like a mouse tail and he is telling a tale so it is a homonym. The dodo is the one that suggested the caucus race to dry off. Alice is concerned about her cat because she misses her and affread that she wont see her again. Alice doesn't drink the rest of the posion because she is already to large and didn't wanna grow anymore. The rabbit refers to Alice as Mary Ann because he thought she was his house maid. Bill is a lizard thing that crawled down the chimney to get Alice out of the house and Alice kicks him out and he lands on the ground and gets hurt. He is a friend of the White Rabbit. Alice's relationship with the characters at the end of chapter four was bad because they were chasing her after she left the house. we think that alice will smoke the hookah with the caterpillar.
Jeremy Gulick, Cam Carter, Tracey Sams, Cody Lund, Katie Colley

Where is my cat?

The poem that explains the story should be named "The String of Discipline". Imperious Prima comes first, secunda comes second, and tertia comes third. Alice follows the rabbit into the hole because she is amused and is curious about how the rabbit can have and use a pocket watch. Alice is a 12 year old girl. She would drink from the bottle because she is falling into a deep hole, since the bottle says that it is not poison, she thinks that anything might help her. The poem from "The Pool of Tears", came from when she was trying to remember who she was. After the mouse swims past Alice in the pool of tears, she wants it to come back because she thinks that it might know where they are at. An eaglet is a young eagle and a lory is a colorful parrot. The White Rabbit will never talk to Alice. This is all a dream and the White Rabbit tricked Alice into following him.

Kayla Faucett
Ashley Urtado

Sean Erpelding

Wheres my cat?

She ask wheres my cat then she named the poem the chain of commands cause it is talking about 1st, 2nd and 3rd in command. Shes fallow the rabbit cause she was curious and board. Alice is about ten years old. She drunk out of the bottle cause she was curious so she tried a little bit and she liked it and it tasted good so she drunk it all and it made her small and she went through the door. The poem that talks about the Nile river was from Egypt. Alice and the mouse are stuck in the poll of tears and she asked the mouse to come back cause she wanted out to, Lory is a parrot and the eaglet is a baby eagle. The rabbit will talk to Alice at some point, yes it is a dream and the rabbit is not trying to trick her it is just part of her dream.

Tyler, Steven,Shelby,and Kenzi!

Where's my girl cat???

We would title the poem "Dream Land", because its mysterious and foggy like a dream.

Next, Imperious Prima, Secunda, and Tertia means one, two, three, in a primative order. First being the begining of the story, second, the craziness of it all and third is questioning yourself about the story.

Alice follows the rabbit out of pure curiousity, she is a little girl who just went went her impulse. Plus who wouldn't follow a rabbit with a gold pocket watch?

Alice is a little girl, her age isnt specified, we would guess her to be around 11.

The bottle said drink me, and alice thought that it might help her with her sudden need to grow small to get through the tiny door. She assumed everything else that had been happening was so strange, that it didnt seem far fetched, that the mystery liquid could help her out.

"How doth the little crocodile" is a poem by Lewis Carrool, it describes a young crocodile luring fish into its smiling mouth.

Alice calls the mouse back to her so she isnt left alone with no one to talk to and uncertain of what to do next.

They are both types of birds, an eaglet is a eagle baby and a lory is a small colorful parrot.

Yes, we think Alice will eventually catch up with the rabbit, he seems to be everywhere she goes.

Yes, Alice is in a very bizzarre dreamland.

No, the rabbit is not trying to trick her, he is simply about his business, and Alice is freely following him.

By: Cody Baldwin, Grace Hickman, Brittany Rickman, Nikki Moose, Kirk Rose

where is my female cat

We would title the poem "Happy shiny crocodile".

Alice followed the rabbit because he pulled a pocket watch out of his pocket and she wanted to know what he was late for. Alice is old enough to want pictures in books and to fit down a rabbit hole. Alice drank the bottle because it said to drink it and it wasn't poisonist. The poem comes from her school lessons. she wants the mouse to come back because she was tired of swimming. An eaglet is a baby eagle and a lory is a fictional animal. Yes, it will because in the movie it does. Yes, this is all a dream. No, Alice is just a young retarded girl.

Now that you have been through the Rabbit Hole and the Pool of Tears it is time to answer a couple of your questions. However, as you know, I will not answer them for you. You need to get into your groups and come up with your answers collaboratively.

One of you will type a response to the following questions and post it here on the blog.

  1. I want you to look up the translation to the title of this post and post the translation as the title to your group's post. Remember, online translators will only get you close to the actual translation. Use the context of the saying in the the story to help figure out the exact translation. Click here for a translator.
  2. What would you title the poem found on pages vii and viii?
  3. What does "Imperious Prima, Secunda, and Tertia" represent?
  4. Why does Alice follow the rabbit? This question was asked the most often.
  5. How old is Alice?
  6. Why would Alice drink from the bottle?
  7. Where does the poem come from in "Pool of Tears"?
  8. Why does Alice want the mouse to come back after it swims away?
  9. What is a lory and an eaglet?
  10. Will the White Rabbit ever talk to Alice?
  11. Is this all a dream?
  12. Is the White Rabbit tricking Alice into following her?
Post a picture from the web that goes with these two chapters.

You need to have your responses posted by the end of class today.
