Welcome!

Welcome to Alice's Restaurant. I hope you had a remarkable summer. We will be accomplishing some pretty amazing things this year in Applied Communications. The primary goals for this class are to create various forms of digital media and publish these creations on the World Wide Web. Have you heard of Web 2.0? We will be utilizing Web 2.0 extensively this year, and as a matter of fact, we are using it right now on this blog. Most of us probably use it and don't realize it. If you use Google for a search engine, you have been using Web 2.0.

A good deal of our work will be posted here on the blog. What work am I talking about? Well, we will be interacting with each other as we read and respond to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, heretofore referred as AAIW. We will then create podcasts, create some video, and finish the year with some group projects. If everything works out well we may manage to work in some claymation projects.

However, we will begin the year with a mini-research project. Over the next two class periods we you will need to determine the answers to the following questions:

  1. What is Alice's Restaurant?
  2. Is it a real or fictional place?
  3. Who is Alice?
  4. Why name a restaurant after her?
  5. Who is Arlo Guthrie?
  6. Why would he write a song about Alice's Restaurant?
  7. What is the song about?
  8. Why would this song inspire Mr. N to name our class blog after it?
Your assignment is to post a 700 word summary of your findings. I have posted a Wikipedia link at the top of the page to get you started. Cite the sources of your information. You will need at least two sources cited to complete the summary. You do not need to answer all of the questions above, but you must answer the last one.
