Carrol, Dodgson, and Hookah

Lewis Carroll wrote Alice's Adventures in Wonderland because he became close with one of his friend's wife and their three young girls. Carroll told stories to the girls, then later made the stories into a book. A hookah is a single or multi stemmed water pipe used for smoking herbal fruits. People who used hookahs were the wise ones of upper- class families. Carroll talked about the hookah in his stories because they were accepted at that time. Other than publishing stories, Lewis Carroll was famous for his photography and his inventions. We believe that Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is an appropriate book to read because by the time students are in high school, they should be plenty mature enough to take the story seriously.
